Author Guidelines

Author guidelines

Below is a general outline of journal author guidelines:

Types of manuscripts

These are:

  1. Research articles: These are based on original research findings. The length should be between 6000 and 8000 words, inclusive of references.
  2. Review articles: These are usually comprehensive reviews of existing literature. Review articles are more extensive and can be between 8000 and 10000 words.
  3. Short communications: These are presentations of brief reports of noteworthy findings. These are concise articles that ordinarily range from around 2000 to 3000 words.
  4. Case studies are comprehensive reports of individual cases. The length of this manuscript is usually between 6000 and 8000 words.
  5. Letters to the Editor: These focus on comments on hitherto published articles. This is typically between 300 and 1000 words, and it should be framed around an introduction, main body, and a conclusion, with proper citations and references where necessary.
  6. The right to respond: If a journal article publishes criticism or a differing point of view, the original author(s) may be invited or choose to submit a refutation or rejoinder, which the journal might publish. This may also be in response to a letter to the editor. This is generally between 800 and 1500 words. This length allows for adequate space to make a well-reasoned response while keeping the discussion focused. Structurally, the response includes an introduction, a clear response to the points raised, and a conclusion. Proper citations and references are essential to support the presented arguments.

Submission Process

  1. Online submission: This is through the journal website: https://journals.cut.ac.zw/index.php/jchd/about/submissions.
  2. Include a cover letter declaring the significance of the study and confirming that the manuscript has not been published elsewhere.
  3. Cover letter: It is a must that there be a cover letter that includes all necessary declarations.
  4. Author information: Provide these details - author names, affiliations, and contact information.

Manuscript preparation

    4. Sub-subheadings: 12
    5. Footnotes: Usually, 10-point font size.
  3. Title page: Include the title of the manuscript, full names of all authors, their institutional affiliations, and the corresponding author's contact information. The title of the manuscript should not exceed 20 words.
  4. Abstract: Provide an abstract of between 250 and 300 words. It should capture the objectives, methods, results, and conclusions of the study.
  5. Keywords: Provide five to seven (5-7) keywords that echo the main themes of the manuscript.
